After Reading Lao Tsu: Chapter 30

People of the Tao are not proud of their results. People of Zen are not caught up in their results. It is not people of the Tao or Zen who are caught up in winning or losing, desire to win, and are proud of the winning. Therefore, if a person thinks of himself/herself as a real Budo-ka, it never happens that he/she shows off his/her strength when he/she wins a game of martial arts. It happens in sports that people feel delighted with winning and bad about losing. Budo, which is a practice of the Tao or Zen, is a path to transcend the value judgment of winning or losing. Individuals who are caught up in and proud of their results are nothing more than that.
